Vilcabamba Community Kitchen Updates (VCK)

ree

*The number of families that we have the opportunity to support continues to grow each week. In the last two week we have vetted and added 7 new families to those we support here in Vilcabamba. This brings our total to 13 families that we visit each week. Our support includes bringing nutritious food, and household needs such as soap, TP, etc and home repairs as needed.

*The Board of Directors has added Ibeth Guerrero, a social worker working with the city, and she is now vetting all our newest families to learn if they are eligible and to do a needs assessment to help us identify and understand how we can best serve each families needs.

* Wait for it...., Wait for it... As a partner with VCK the City has promised us a building to set up as our home base and have a soup kitchen. We are still waiting but together with the City we have located a great spot in town. Progress is slow but we are now being told that it should be happening in March. When this happens many things will start moving very fact and we will be needing additional volunteers to help with the running of the kitchen.

* I would be remiss if I did not also make an appeal for donations. No one working at VCK gets any compensation (in fact many volunteers donate each month). Once we have the building there will be a need to equip the kitchen, purchase the serving supplies, buying the food basics, etc. It all costs money and we urge all in the community to consider a one time or monthly donation.

All our services are paid for by generous donations from the community.

How to donate: There is a donation button on our website (www.vilcack.org) or some choose to set up a bank to bank financial transfer and still others meet Bob or Elyse in town for a coffee or a chat and hand off their gift. This is my favorite way to receive the money because it gives me an opportunity to meet and thank our donors, answer any questions they may have and possibly make a new friend.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to produce a video for VCK with Joli Farms. I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for your support,

Bob Higgins - Director
